Gurudwara Pathar Sahib is a sacred shrine built in 1517 to honor the visit of Guru Nanak Dev to Ladakh. Located on the Leh-Kargil highway, it houses a massive boulder (Pathar) with the imprint of Guru Nanak's back and the footmark of a demon who tried to crush him. The gurudwara is managed and maintained by the Indian Army, who welcome all travelers with hot tea and Langar. It stands as a peaceful, spiritual oasis of warmth and service along the barren, wind-swept highway.
