Valara and Cheeyappara are twin waterfalls located on the scenic Cochin-Munnar highway, serving as a beautiful welcome to the hills of Munnar. Cheeyappara Waterfall cascades down in seven spectacular rocky steps, presenting a stunning visual sight. Nearby, Valara Waterfall is surrounded by dense, lush green forests and drops from a steep cliff. These roadside waterfalls are popular stops for travelers to take photos, enjoy fresh coconut water, and stretch their legs while enjoying the cool, mist-filled mountain air.
Do not attempt to climb the slippery rocks near the waterfall cascades; it is highly dangerous
Keep the roadside clean; do not litter plastic bottles or snack wrappers
Watch out for moving highway traffic while taking photos from the roadside viewpoint
Do not feed the local monkeys near the waterfalls
Bathing is dangerous and not allowed at Cheeyappara due to steep rock drops and fast currents, though you can stand near the spray at the bottom safely.
They are located about 40 km before Munnar, serving as a popular stopover during the drive from Kochi.
